Science related fields continue to have the lowest percentages of women in the workforce, while studies show that seventy-two percent of girls are discouraged from pursuing scientific interests at some point throughout their schooling. With a focus of putting an end to this gender inequality, I designed the virtual game, “Bitty Bacs.” Bitty Bacs was created to encourage young girls to embrace their love of science by exploring the microscopic world of bacteria in a fun and playful way. Each bacteria, or Bitty Bac, is designed to mimic the appearance of real bacteria, yet stylized in a way to make them fun and inviting in a form girls will want to engage with. The animation runs as an advertisement while also depicting how girls will interact with the game.
